Hi, :)
I'm just curious if my IBM Netvista 6792-MAU is compatible when I install linux program. I'm using win right now, and I heard a lot of good things in linux so I want to give a try too.
Thanks in advance for any help and advices.

Welcome to JL!
From what I could tell by the specs, if you have 512mb of ram you shouldn't have any problems to speak of. If your ram is around 256mb I would go with a light widow manager like Fluxbox or xfce (xubuntu uses xfce) I had a laptop with almost the same specs as yours and Linux run well on it. I used Ubuntu, but I had 512mb of ram. What I would do if I was you is download some Linux live-cds and try them.

Basically every distro should work, some are more user friendly and it is mostly the desktop manager and package manager that they use that will make the biggest difference.

You can install ubuntu linux (very popular linux distribution) to your windows partition like any other windows application and then boot into linux using wubi:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wubi_%28Ubuntu_installer%29
It is a good way to take baby steps into the world of linux.
You can also use live-evaluation CD distributions to boot your computer using a CD and play with linux without installing anything to your hard drive. It is a good way to look at linux and see if your hardware is supported.
Many of the most popular linux distributions featured at distrowatch.com offer live-evaluation CDs.
