This is something I've noticed with both Xubuntu 8.04.1 (but not the Gnome Hardy Heron) and Vector Linux 5.9.1 (an otherwise very nice distro): opening a Youtube movie crashes the browser. Any browser--Firefox/Iceweasel, Dillo, Midori, Epiphany, Opera, &c. crashes.

Nobody on the Ubuntu, or other forums has any clue what causes this, or how to correct it. Any clues?

Hi,

Welcome to JustLinux! :)

Is this using the free flash plugin (gnash) or Adobes plugin? If your not sure run this from the command line.
ajefferi@arkab:~$ dpkg --get-selections |grep flash
flashplugin-nonfree install
dpkg is used to install, remove, and provide information about the installed software on a Debian/Ubuntu system. The --get-selections argument lists all of the currently installed software which is then piped, |, to grep. Which searches for the text, flash, within the output of the first command.

This was GNASHless...

Both Flash 9 and 10 had this issue, on several browsers.

The bug was complicated on DreamLinux, by the fact that opening the terminal crashed the Xfce login session. This, and some other issues, caused me to abandon DL. (Really too bad, as it's the Fernanda Tavares of distros--absolutely stunning, from Brazil...and probably unatainable.)

Vector Linux 6.0, unlike 5.9.1, doesn't have this problem. Weird.
