hello i was wondering if i could get any help.i installed ubuntu a while ago hoping to use it instead of vista but eventually i didn't want the hassle of learning how to use it so i just kept using vista.i decided to delete the partition thinking it would also erase grub which i found out would not work.so i ended up having to download ubuntu 9.04 from a usb.but now when the grub menu pops up to select all i see are ubuntu options and one option for windows xp which is what i use to restore the vista to it's factory default. i was wondering if anyone could help me find vista and take grub of.

Normally retoring the Vista's MBR is all one needs. Task B7 of the last link of my signature refers.

Never had to use bootrec.exe or BCDedit.exe for such purpose yet because the boot configuration files should be inside Vista partition and intact.

agatonsax's suggestion will have difficulty with Vista which has a MBR different from Xp/Win2k/Win9x/Dos. The fidsk program no longer works but has been replaced by bootrec.exe. JohnT's link has the explanation showing how to use bootrec.exe /fixmbr to do the same thing.

Try this link http://www.computers-it.com/general/general_wrote_grub_tovista_mbr_rocketraid.php.
It explains how to fix the mbr. It also explains how to fix the mbr if you have windows installed on a raid.
