Hi,

I have just spent a whole day installing Centos 5.3 on an old machine and now as I take disc 4 out and reboot, I get the black screen with Login and Password.

I can remember being asked for one Login and pwd early in the install but chose not to use one, then it asked what the box is going to be called and I said Linux... (I think).

How in earth can I get myself out of this??

Please!!

What?! Didn't the installer ask you for a root password? It usually doesn't allow you to proceed without specifying a root password, AFAIK (link (http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5215/passwordd.png)).

Hi,

At some stage it did ask for a password which I gave and I am sure I know that, however I didn't offer a User as it said I didn't have to.

At another time I named the box Linux as my others are XPs.

Any ideas how to get around this. Ican't even get to a command prompt although as a Linux newby not sure how I'd do there either

Thanks

Okay, I get your problem.

When asked for a user ID, type in root.
When asked for a password, type in the one you specified during the install.

The root account is to be used for maintenance of the system. I suggest you create a normal user account for your daily activities.
