my laptop: P4 1.5 Mobile w/384mb ram & nvidia geforce2go; I've been running ubuntu on it, which I love, but starting with the latest released version of ubuntu (8.04), it slowed down too much. So I ditched the Gnome default & went with fluxbox - big improvement in performance.
Lately I've been hearing about vector linux, how fast it is and how stable it is, since it's based on slackware. I checked out the vector linux website and it turns out they've got a light version, which by default uses lightweight window managers such as fluxbox, openbox, jwm, and lxde. Well being somebody who always enjoys checking out a new distro or window manager, I burned the iso to cd & installed it on the laptop. It installed no problems, detected my proxim wireless card (which surprised me), and it's way faster than ubuntu.
Right now I'm running the default window manager, lxde, and I like it, but I plan to check out jwm and openbox as well. Chances are I'll eventually end up using fluxbox since that's what I had with the ubuntu and I like being able to configure so many different hotkey sequences. Does anyone out there know how to do the same thing with lxde? Anyway, I guess I'll keep using vector linux & post my findings/opinions for anybody who cares to read them.
