In my search for lightweight desktops and apps I installed Rox filer, which led me to the discovery of an entire desktop environment called Rox Desktop. It's light, fast, the apps are light; I am definitely going to check it out. At this point I'm still going with fluxbox but the search continues!

I did try Rox. I can't remember why I didn't like it, but it looks really nice.
Obviously, it's not the lightest thing out there, but I usually prefer Konqueror with fluxbox. It's a great match for functionality, which is why I use fluxbox, not lightness. KDE takes a moment to get started on my machine, but once it's up and running, there's not a problem with speed, unless I want to really load things up with multitasking, or maybe watch a DVD or something. KDE will overload my brain before it will overload my computer, and that's why I don't use it. I love Fluxbox because It's easy to find what I need, and that's because the menu is 100 per cent written by me, and structured like a table of contents or term paper outline. Nothing could possibly be more natural to me
There I go again, off on another fluxbox rant. We were talking about file managers, and for a lighter file manager, there's xfe, which has a nostalgic look and feel for anyone who used windows 98. One thing I love about xfe is that, like Konqueror's new Dolphin file manager, it gives you option of logging onto root graphically. It has a lot of functionality, almost as much as Konqueror, and more, in at least one important respect. Like Dolphin, XFE will let you open directopries and files as root. Sweet!

For the gnome users out there looking for this functionality, I stumbled across this the other day... Open nautilus as root script (http://http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Open+Nautilus+as+Root?content=73610)

Point of the script, which I don't use, just happened to saw BBJ brought up that functionality, was that you don't have to open a terminal
