Hi,
I just installed an old version of Redhat 8 (not fedora) and want to upgrade the KDE to the most current version? I searched Google and it refers to Apt-get? I am not fimiliar with this tool, so first of all...is this the best tool for the job, and if it is, how do I use it efficiently for this task?

Thanks.

Welcome to Justlinux

RedHat 8 uses RPM or Yum as a package manager, also RH8 is no longer supported and hasn't been for some time. Is there a reason you would need to install RH8? Apt-get (The command line side of Synaptic package manager) is a Debian Package manager also used by Ubuntu version/flavors of Linux. I'm not sure but I can see you having a lot of dependency problems taking that old of a version of RH and trying to install the latest KDE you may be farther ahead installing a newer version of Fedora that will have support, and then install the latest version of KDE. Or install a Linux version that uses KDE as a default windows manager, like Kubuntu, Slackware, or Mandriva.

If you're curious, APT for Red Hat 8.0 can be found at:
http://apt.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/redhat/8.0/apt/

Directions for using it can be found here:
http://freshrpms.net/apt/

Good luck finding any repositories, though. Red Hat 8.0 is positively ancient.
