Hi I have a Gateway laptop running ubuntu 10 connected to pda phone - HTC E650 running windoze ce. I am/ was hoping to be able to access to the data on the phone/pda and possible edit it or retrieve it etc can anysuggect any - I and using standard USB cable with normal usb connector on one and mini usb connector on the other. I have tried using Kmobile tools with no joy at all.

I haven't tried to do anything like this since I last owned a Palm, but check some of these links:

There seems to be a lot of ongoing activity around windows ce devices in general, so you might get lucky.

There seems to be a lot of ongoing activity around windows ce devices in general, so you might get lucky.On a PalmOS device this is a piece of cake using Softick Card Export.
I just checked their site and to my surprise, they have a Windows Mobile version.

It's neither free nor open source, but I had very good luck with the PalmOS version connecting to my Ubuntu laptop, and I assume the Windows Mobile version would be just as effective.

I just tried Card Export II on my Windows Mobile phone...it works just the same as the PalmOS version did on my Slackware box:
