I just discovered UDE, the Unix Desktop Environment, purely by accident. It came up during an apt-cache search for something entirely unrelated. I installed it, of course. I'm running it now.

It's weird. Right now, it looks nothing like the screenshot.

Not sure if it is the same one but from the distros I installed indiscriminately I have encountered a few that has such characteristic.

I have since thought it is second nature if there is no task bar or control panel available then I just click the right button of the mouse at the screen to get the available commands out.

Think this interface has been around for a while and only used by a small number of distros. I didn't know one can get it to replace a KDE or Gnome though.

It kind of reminds me of fvwm, but it might be just a little bit more agile. I doubt if I'll switch. It's too much mouse, not enough keyboard to suit me. Hurts my wrist.

I'm one of those folks that need a full bodied DE. I like them much like I like my women - full bodied. Don't care for them skinny, pelvic bone bruising ones.

While I'm not a fan of KDE, I'd take it over this. Matter of fact, I'm not a fan of the box WM. Nor any WM for that matter. Gnome (that's my choice), XFCE or KDE is a better option than the WMs. And this one looks a bit on the bare side. Just my opinion. Now Blackbelt, give me your best shot.

My what?

UDE has potential, and since I wasn't aware of it before, I thought I'd mention it for anyone who is interested, but apparently it's the part-time project of one person, and I think it's under-developed and under-documented.

I like those KDE apps, but KDE is kind of a mess. I'd rather have everything at my fingertips than all spread out on the screen like that. I want my Desktop GUI to be anticipate my every need, and to be completely under my control-- which is NOT how I like my women, by the way! My GUI is fluxbox, elaborately customized to run KDE applications. Kpager and Konqueror do a great job of fleshing out fluxbox. It's like a completely different thing. I'm thinking of calling it "Kickbox".
