Just in case anyone is interested, I just found out that Penumbra is out. The demo is different from when I last tried it too. Really worth a look.
I got eaten by some crazy looking wolf :D

Wow, what a great looking game. There are several YouTube Videos (http://youtube.com/user/hg2708) demonstrating various aspects of the game. The system requirements (http://www.penumbra-overture.com/demo.php) are surprisingly modest for the kinds of neat physics they've got going on.
This might actually be a compelling reason to install the nVIDIA proprietary drivers on my PC. Hopefully, the nouveau drivers will be able to handle games like this in the future.

You're right. Forgot to add the link. The link above is for the demo download, and here is the official page for the game:
Penumbra (http://www.penumbra-overture.com/game.php)
The game costs only $20 so it might be nice to support a linux game.
Also the demo is really short but it will make you want to play more.
there used to be a diffferent demo before, which is longer. I don't know if its available download anymore. I think I may have the Windows installation file somewhere though if anyone wants to try it under Wine.

The technology demo from 2006 is available at:

I finished playing through the demo. The game has a real creepy vibe, though I had to turn the graphics settings down considerably on my PC.
BTW, you're supposed to get killed by the dog at the end. I beat it over the head with a big rock and it didn't even slow down.

yeah, I tried a killing that dog a few times and it didn't even react. That's the end of the demo. In the full version you're supposed to be able to kill the dog's.
You get the tech demo working in Linux?

No. After I played through the first demo, I decided to upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10. Now the nVIDIA drivers are getting terrible performance. I went from about 1500 fps on glxgears to less than 300. I need to get this fixed before I can do anything else with this game.

I haven't tried it in a while, but it worked under Wine pretty much out of the box when it first came out. I don't imagine that much has changed since then.
I keep meaning to finish the full version, but it seems like I just never get the time.:(
