Hi folks,

Intel PIII
Ubuntu 7.04 desktop.

I just discovered my PC starts very slow, hanging on memory test, hardware detecting, etc. Finally it boots with Ubuntu running w/o problem.

Would it be a hardware problem? It is time for this old PC to retire?

Please advise how to check the problem and fix it. TIA

First I would run memtest then go from there.

I've had computers hang on the POST with dodgy hard drives and usb devices. I'd check those first.

Post your /etc/fstab here to see if Ubuntu spending all its time to verify other partitions?

Are you referring to the POST process (bios) or the Linux boot procedure? If the latter at what message(s) does it pause at longer than normal now?
