Aloha Everyone!

It has been awhile since I have perused the boards here. Hope everyone is doing fine!

I am running Suse 10.1 since it's release date and have had no problems until now. I am hoping one of the guru's here can help me out. The problem started when my SB Audigy2 Value (SB0400) card failed. I replaced the card with an Audigy SE card (SB0570). When I went into Yast to set up the new card modules, the old card was still listed in the list along with the new card. Yast would not let me delete the old card and gave no error message. If I tried to edit the old card, the Yast sound module would shut down. When I tried to edit the new card it would give me an error message saying it could not load the snd_ca0106 parameters.

I did a lsmod and found that all of the snd and emu10k1 modules were loading for the old card even though the card is no longer present. I have rmmod all modules that were snd_ labeled and even the soundcore module. I then went back into Yast with the same results. Yast would reload all the modules again. If I rebooted into RL3 the modules will still load even after rm'ing them. I am stuck in an endless loop here....

Anyway, here is an excerpt pertaining to the old card when trying to delete it from the Yast log, maybe someone can make something of it:

Sorry so long, but if someone can tell me how to correct this it would be much appreciated. If you need more info, let me know. The log entries for this are quite long.

Thanks a bunch for any help!

Never mind....I figured it out. I ran alsaconf just for a shot and it was able to configure the card. Then I went back into Yast and found that the old card was no longer there. I was able to configure it. It works just fine and dandy. Sorry for the needless traffic on the boards here.

For what it is worth, the Audigy SE sounds a heck of a lot better than the Audigy 2 card.

Since you got this card to work, I have a couple questions:

1) Do you run an SMP kernel?

2) Does the card do hardware mixing? (You can test it out by finding a long-enough .au file, doing a "cat file.au >/dev/dsp" from one shell, and then doing it again from a second shell while the first cat is still running. If the second cat fails with a "device or resource busy" error, then it doesn't do hardware mixing.)

I'm curious because my PCI sound card doesn't (or didn't?) work under SMP; it started generating NMIs that hosed everything up. But my onboard sound (which works fine under SMP) doesn't do hardware mixing. I'd like to find a card that does both. :)

That's sothing beyond me, though I want to be helpful .

I am running the default x86_64 kernel. As far as I know, the basic Audigy cards don't support hardware mixing. I think the higher end X-FI cards do, but those are expensive and more than what I need. I only use the card for playing mp3's and such and gaming.

Ah, I see.

Actually I can probably find out what kinds of cards do hardware mixing with some searching. I was more curious on whether it worked with an SMP kernel and two CPUs. (Or dual-core, either way.)

But thanks for the info! :)
