Hi all. Hate to bother you, but I've come up empty on this one.

I've been burning iso's with no problems using k3b on an xubuntu
install for months, but lately any install cd (or dvd) I burn gets
to the same place in the installation and spits out the same error:

[!!] Configuring cdrom-checker-menu

Error reading Release file

The CD-ROM does not seem to contain a valid 'Release' file, or that
file could not be read correctly.

I've checked the md5sums of both the iso and cd, tried different
media, used slower burn speeds, tried using wodim instead of k3b,
tried appending ide=nodma, and of course Googled with all my might
all to no avail. Is there anything I might have missed?

Any help would be stored treasure in Heaven.

Is this all the same distro? If so it could be that there is a bug in the image, since if the CD is passing the md5sum it's hard to believe it was a bad burn. Along similar lines, have you tried burning any other CD's?

Actually I've tried two different images - Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu server. I'll download and try one more - and try a data dvd and post the results here.

Thanks for the reply

I burned a good data dvd, as well as a bootable Knoppix cd. Is it possible both ubuntu iso's are corrupt? If so, wouldn't this have resulted in different md5sums?

Yeah, if they were corrupt it would have given you a different md5sum. About the only thing I can think of is that the error message is misleading and it actually failed to download an updated release file (as some installers will do), but I wouldn't expect that to be a fatal error.

Might be worth submitting a bug report to them (since I see your post on the forums has gone unanswered thus far;)).

Thanks. It's worth a shot.
