I split this question off into its own topic rather than hijacking someone else's thread...

Hello, srajv:
how can i know the partition size my window it is running on
Windows has many ways. I like using the Start button > My Computer then 'hover' your mouse over the partition [usually named C: or D: or some letter of your alphabet]. Depending on the view of the My Computer window you may have a pane in the lower left side called 'Details'.
For complete partition information on your machine use the XP Windows tool 'Computer Management' found here:

Start button and rightclik My Computer; choose 'Manage'
In the management window choose 'Storage'
Then 'Disk Management (local)'

And you should see a nice layout of information.
please guide me on the sizes for partition and any comand

Windows tends to want a lot of space and 40GB can seem small, really fast. Ubuntu will work fine in a 10GB partition and probably as little as 6GB will work for you; dunno. AS FOR ANY COMMANDS, srajv, we would need much more detail about your particular current configuration; also you could Search the forums for information about shrinking, splitting, adding, organizing, formatting or deleting partitions.
Cheers, mate
