Hello

I just build a new box and have decided to try linux(again) and a again it has disappointed me, so i figured it's time for the community(which is all good:)) to step in and save the day.

Anyways, my problem is that the Kubuntu installer freezes(6.10) while loading, with the following error:

[17179570:42800] PCI: Jbm36x: Enabling Dual Function on 000:3:00.0

According to Google this appears to be a know error with the Jmb36x controller and maybe also my CPU Core 2 Due E6600. A solution i read was to try the beta version 7.04 of kubuntu, but that 1 freezes as well shortly after beginning to load the installer with no error, it just freeze.

So any idea on how to bypass this problem are highly welcome as of now I'm just stuck searching Google, reading.

Your hardware is new, sometimes this causes problems, as the intel world doesn't do little if anything to provide the needed driver information. One thing you can try, is download a netinstall .iso for the i386 then after the install is finished, you can install a newer SMP kernel-image this will only be 32bit, but it should get you up and running.

Or I'm sure someone will be able to give you some better info.

PXE netboot not working as my onboard card does not support PXE, trying to find another atm.

mini image failing becuase it does not having the correct netcard drivers (RTL8110SC)

Well I found an old 3c905c card i had lying around got PXE to work but it failed, then i got the mini image to work and after some sever net problems(not related to my install) I finial got the install packages download.

But then, of cause, the install cannot recognize/see my sata disk, all in all it been a grand day for me an nix :)

I've got something similar...
00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) 4 port SATA IDE Controller (rev 02)
00:1f.5 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) 2 port SATA IDE Controller (rev 02)

What happened to me on this box is that the install cd would go so far and then hang because it couldn't find the cdrom.
With the LATEST experimental ubuntu cd I had to pass the parameter "all-generic-ide" at boot time and it worked...
I don't recall the specifics of how I did it, but I know it'll tell you which key to hit for help...then it'll show you how to boot with special parameters...possibly something like "linux all-generic-ide".
Google "intel all-generic-ide" and you'll find tons of hits that'll help.
The only strange thing I've noticed after getting a distro installed (I just used that ubuntu CD as something to install gentoo from) is that my optical drives are /dev/hdi and /dev/hdj.

i think what you need to get is the alternate install iso, does not run live cd and boots straight into the installer

And we have lift off...

Using the alternative cd and with the sata controller set to ACHI i got the installation going, it is copying files as we speak :).

Using the following guide to update my nvidia drivers got X working:
http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Latest_Nvidia_Edgy
apparently just doing sudo so "newest nvidia driver" and config was not enough.

next step cedege and games so i can test that gfx card
