I'm running Mandriva 2006 with an external Sony DVDRW drive, I think it's actually an OptiArc. Anyway, sometimes, access to /dev/sr0 is blocked for no apparent reason. It seems to happen whenever the high speed usb bus resets. To fix this problem I disabled ehci_hcd but now burning a DVD takes an hour. Is there any way I can get the drive to survive a bus reset?
Also, reading a bad CD with the drive causes the same problem. /dev/sr0 is still there, but I can't mount, soft eject, read from or write to it. I either have to unplug it or rmmod and modprobe ohci_hcd.
