Orinoco card unable to get monitor mode, latest drivers

I'm currently trying to get kismet to work with my Orinoco card. I do a apt-get and it says I've got the lastest hostap drivers.

When I do iwpriv it dosn't include monitor in there. The disto I'm using (knoppix) supposedly added monitor mode to it's live cd quite some time ago.

Do I have to flash my card or something? I've no clue where to go from here. Possibly dell truemobile has different incompatable drivers with regular orinocos?

No, the orinoco cards don't support scanning easily. I have an orinoco silver and to enable scanning (via kismet), it had to go into a mode that didn't support TCP/IP. So you can either scan, or surf...take your pick.

I know that you can't surf and scan at the same time. But how would i get my card (Dell Truemobile 1150) working with knoppix in monitor mode? Do I disable surfing temporarly or do I have to choose just scanning and never surfing?


What is a good card I can buy that would work right out of the box on knoppix or other distos that supports Kismet and monitor mode?
