Hey, I recently upgraded to KDE 3.5.3. After the upgrade, the first I did a reboot, and I get an error in the boot process saying something is wrong with the iptables... (not found I think). And also, during boot, it fails to load SSH (have no Idea what this is, or if it's somehow related to the iptables problem).

Despite the errors, it did boot. However, I was unable to connect to start my pppoe connection. So I reconfigured my PPPOE, and got back online... But I'm still getting the same error every time I start the machine.

Does anyone know anything I could do to fix this, is this a serious problem?

iptables can be used for firewalling as it allows you to setup rules to handle incoming and outgoing net traffic.

SSH is used to create encrypted connections from yours to other computers or vice-versa.

If you don't need these apps, you don't need to worry, unless there is other software on your computer that relies on those. However, if your computer is directly connected to the internet (=you are not sitting behind a firewalled router) you should take care of the iptables problem or your computer's running services may become targets for hackers. I have no clue about Vector Linux and how it handles firewalls, but I suggest you look that up in your documentation.

BTW, iptables and SSH are not related, neither are they with KDE. I can't exactly see why a KDE upgrade should break those. Maybe you should also check the dependencies in your package manager. Maybe some GUI tools in KDE rely on a specific version of this software.

mmm I'm not sure either... but I guess I may need a fresh install, because I lost sound, and some other deps for other programs got screwed. I guess I should have known better than to upgrade KDE.

I'll be doing a fresh install soon
