This forum has really come a long way. Back when I first started coming here, it was called linuxnewbie.org, and it was pretty cahotic. There was a section where people could talk about anything they want, which was fun, but there were constant flame wars about politics and religion. The name and the policy changed sometime not long before the War in Iraq started. By the way, guys, that was good timing! The whole thing could have slid into the crapper very easily if the trend had been allowed to continue. Besides, as the events of recent years have sometimes have become occasionally terrifying and/or enraging, Linux has become a refuge for me, not merely an escape from the world, but a way to make the world better.

Nowadays, the moderators make a point of running a tight ship. They play an active role. I've never seen any other forum on the web that is as meticulously monitored, No one gets away with taking things off the matter at hand for every long. I don't agree every single time Parcival locks down a thread, but there's no denying the results of good, hands-on management, and a clear sense of purpose. It's just a damned useful site.

By the way, don't overlook the search feature. THe moderators will make a point of editing thread titles, and instucting users to title their threads, in such a way that makes information easy to find.

Good work, guys. I certainly don't have a problem with saying it from time to time. :)

At least one person doesn't think we're fascist buttheads :D
You should see half the spam we filter out for you guys, popular forums are big spam bait...even my little personal one I run for a crew in Puzzle Pirates gets constantly bombarded (until I put up strict registration rules ;)).

I absolutely love cleaning out the forums. This way I get meds at incredibly low prices and great retails on Windows OEM software.

Okay, back to serious. Thanks for the compliment, blackbelt, there was a time when other voices were heard. :D My only secret is to lock as few threads as possible. When I lock a thread, it's because I do it according to the rules of mdwatts, the grandmaster himself.

However, most threads I lock are just plain spam while the genuine threads hardly ever are a problem - mostly just newbies posting without a proper title. The reason why this board runs so well is not only because we do our job, but mostly because we have such excellent users. :)
