I was just curious to know where ya'll have seen linux outside of work/home, or in embedded device's (like PS3 http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/linux/2002/03/21/linuxps2.html & http://www.linux********s.com/article.php/2006031511012712)
for instance, a local Super8 hotel in the area has a linux box with Gnome at the front desk for their guests to surf the web or print out documents.

heh i noticed the other day picking up some filters that autozone uses redhat 7.x for their backend/db looks like they had an old cobol programmer hook up their interface

I started my own company and everything runs on linux. It wasn't as hard as it may seem to orient staff to the new interface. They just played with the machines and figured stuff out on their own.

The world's fastest computer(s) (http://www.top500.org/lists/2005/11).:)
Web page, email, and (I believe) the network drives at the district I teach in. It is a district of about 14,000 students in Oklahoma.
Unfortunately, the _very_ bug-prone software that we use for attendance and grades runs on Windows. And of course, AD.

We use it a lot here, email, file servers, PDC, BDC, print server, call center and we're just rolling out a big audio automation system (i don't know the details but I think it's a lot to do with audio compression and delivery for radio stations). Pretty much our entire backend is Linux, including Linux based embedded routers and switches.
We only have a few windows servers for specific needs, but most of those could even be replaced with Linux (retraining would be too much of a problem to retrain)

Yeah, all of those little bartop game machines around here run on Linux. (I was very happy to see that)
I get a real kick out of see those ''porting' addicts go. I swear they'd have toasters running the stuff if they could hehe.
Make me almost seem normal. :p

I was at a casino recently when the X server crashed on a video slot machine. I was a bit suprised to see some kernel messages back there. Fortunately my credits were still there after the X server restarted. :) Of course I have no choice but to presume that a windows box would have rebooted and taken my credits with it!

Trying to get games like the above, always could use programers. Anyone want to help?
Back on topic, my work embeds a butt load of Linux in it's products. My department uses it for just about everything.

The Verkehrshaus (http://www.verkehrshaus.ch/en/information/aktuell/index.php) (Museum of Transport) in Luzern, Switzerland, uses a Linux server to stream informations for visitors (e.g. upcoming attractions, etc.) to the displays all over the museum.

Saw a computer science student at my college running DSL on an old VAIO laptop. He was writing a paper in openoffice.
I was stoked to see it. Turned into an hour conversation and made a new friend.
Linux at my work is the OS (SLES9) for one of our carrier class products. We used to run on Solaris/SPARC but switched to Linux
