Hi, I'm new to Linux and every time i pass the first stage of Installation, for example Time Zone, Analyzing, i get to the real Installation and the bar doesn't move at all and it ends up giving me a ERROR 3072 pop up which brings me straight back to the beginning. I tried this three times with the same result. The disks i have are copied and weren't tested to see if they we're any good, so i don't know if that is the problem or not. If you know why this is happening PM me or just Post on the Thread. Thanks.

You could start with the full text of the error message you recieved. Also, a couple of other things:
Have you tried searching Google (http://www.google.com/linux) for your error and seeing if there's any information there?
Have you tried starting the installation in fail-safe mode (it's on the menu when you first boot the CD)?
Also, I believe the installation program will allow you to check the integrity of your discs. Have you tried doing that?
Yes i did try Google for information and i couldnt find any. But i will try Fail safe mode and see if that works. And if the Error comes up again i will tell you the full Error Message. I will also try to find the Programe you talked about. Thanks.
Ok. Heres a run down of what i figured out. I am using Linux Suse 10.0. Once is get to The Anazalyzing part of Installation. One of the Partitioning says in RED. Shrinking Windows Partition /dev/hda1 to 58.7 GB. Ok. Now when i go on to Installation the first thing it trys to do is. Windows Partition /dev/hda1 to 58.7 GB. Then the error comes up which is.
Storage Modification Failed
System Error Code: -3072
Failure Occurred During the Following Action
Shrink Windows Partition /dev/hda1 to 58.7 GB.
What i do know is that the Windows on my computer is saying that Linux won't move it to make space for itself. What i need to know is how to Partition my Windows. Can you tell me if I'm right or not? And how to Partition my Windows. If ya can thanks.

From what you said, it's pretty clear that the installation program is having problems resizing your Windows partition. A couple thing to try are:
First, make sure your Windows partition has enough free space. To shrink your Windows partition down to 58.7 GB, there needs to be less than 58.7 GB worth of data on it. If you don't have enough free space, you'll need to delete some data to make room for SuSE.
If you already have enough free space, try defragmenting your Windows partition. If the partition is excessively fragmented, it can play havoc with partitioning programs like those found in the SuSE setup program.
If all else fails, you may want to try partitioning your hard drive with a different program. QTparted (http://qtparted.sourceforge.net/) is an excellent program for this. You can find QTparted -- as well as many other useful programs -- on Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.org/), a Live CD.
Ok i partitioned it! And it worked! Thanks for the help. ( Im useing Lunix Gnome to reply to this at the moment. ) I partitioned it and then Installed it again and it worked. Thanks again.

I'm glad you got everything working! Do you think you could post what you did to solve the problem? It would be a big help to anyone who encounters the same error in the future.

I encountered a very similar situation with error code -3027. I have more information about the cause, which may be related to the problem by the previous poster.
I took the advice in this forum and downloaded the live ISO with QTParted. It gave the same error, however, with more verbose detail. QTParted indicated that it could not proceed with the NTFS resize becuase the Journal was not clean. It recommended restarting Windows and shutting down gracefully before attempting to resize the partition.
This make sense becuase I had aborted an earlier Windows startup to retry my boot from the SuSE DVD.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that bit of information. Hopefully, this thread will be useful to people who encounter this error in the future. Around here, we tell people to do a forum search before asking a question. It helps to actually have stuff to search for. :)

Indeed, excellent information.
Now that you mention that I seem to recall hearing about some errors if Windows is hibernated when you try to resize its partitions. I think it's possible that it stores the hibernation file at the end of the partition so if you try to resize it you will mess up the Windows hibernation. Don't quote me on that though.:)
