I put this in random because I know this is not really related to linux but we linux users still have to (for some reson or another) use windows from time to time and I figured out a way to make it a little less pop-up/spyware prone.

It is actually really simple too, if you just open up internet explorer and go in tools // internet options then to connections then click on "LAN Settings..." you can give it a proxy and the trick is to input an invalid one (Like address: 0.0.0.0 and port:80) then click OK and access the web with firefox.

I read how to disable IE on about.com then thought using firfox while it was disabled might help a little, and it did.

Hope no one minds i posted this on JL, I just thought us linux guys would apprichate this more then most people since firefox is open source and all.

peace in the middle east friends.

I would think that the optimal solution (aside from simply installing Linux, of course) would be to install Firefox, and use IEradicator against the machine--completely removing IE.

It's interesting to see how much faster such a machine runs, after it's unburdened by IE.

cool, I didnt know about IEradicator but that is pretty awesome.... that emicaone

yeah I knew I would get like a million people with the same joke: "how to make windows less annoying? Install linux!"

but the thing this helps with is all of that spyware and pop ups and virus and invasion that comes with using windows on a lan or something. it helps a lot.

Man, I really wish I could try IEradicator. Unfortunately, at work I need to periodically access a website that was specifically designed for IE. It doesn't work with Firefox.

Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about it at home.

Our CRM (Contact Relationship Management) software at work (sales force stuff) will support nothing apart from IE. It annoys me to no end.
