Hi all sorry to trouble you all, but i am new to linux and i am trying to install gentoo of a minimum install disk etc , my problem is as i unpack (after downloading off links) the stage3 tar package into /mnt/gentoo , it starts ok but i end up with a lot of ": cannot write: no space left on device " i am using a 20 gig hd ( 32M hda1 ,512M hda2 swap, 19 GB hda3 ) ,celeron 1.7, 256M ram, i have had the gentoo linux documentation open on another computer an as far as i know have followed it well so far , can some one advise me?

It seems like you have run out of hard disk space... what else is on those disks?

cheers for the reply , nothing as far as i can tell ,that was my impression at first, but i partitioned and then installed the file system as per gentoo doc .
break down is start 1 end, 63 31720 blocks hda1 83
start 64 end 804, 373464 blocks hda2 swap 82
start 805 end 38792, 19145952 blocks hda3 83
may try nuke disk? and start again the hard drive has been reliable for two years and did have 2k installed if that matters

Well, this looks all good to me. Are you positive you mounted hda3 into /mnt/gentoo? If you mounted hda1 instead, this would be the reason for the error.
