Just curious whether anyone has their root password based on a rotating function / equation maybe based on date/time. Seems like a suitable solution to problems such as having to let someone in as root.

Sorry, I'm a little bitter as we got a new IT manager on Jan.01 who decided it was a good idea to want me to share the admin password of our domain controllers with our entire department including the co-op students. I showed up today and the Active Directory was jacked beyond recognition.

Who's to blame? Not me. Who's forced to take the blame? Totally me.

ID-10-T managers suck.

(Post Script: Yes, Windows 2k3 domain controllers but this is the only computer forum I visit and, no, they aren't externally accessible)

Thoughts?

setup a secondary admin account for them to use, restrict it down to only what they need and nothing more, let them use that account all they want

Yeah I tried saying that when this all went down. It took this to get him to believe me.

Oh, we found the culprit too: co-op student #2.

need more advice?

step 1, insert foot into co-op student #2's ***
step 2, make sure co-op student #*'s sees it and gets the point

For Linux
step 1. setup sudo
step 2. foot in arse if abused
step 3. repeat step 2, until step 1 is used properly

For Windows

DONT GIVED NON-ADMINS ADMIN-PASSWORD. There is a reason its not called "who ever we feel like it password".
