I am trying to install SLES8 manually using a USB keyboard. Manual mode does not probe for devices. Google searches turned up nothing on what the insmod command should be at the initial startup screen to load keyboard support. I tried picking the default install and looking at the loaded modules. From there I got:

insmod='usb-ohci, usb-storage, usbcore'

What else do I need to load?

thanks for any help

you may also need to load hid
it would be nice if you can do that, there are some distros that I have to use a PS/2 keyboard to get the install done.

There could be a BIOS setting to allow the USB keyboard to work without detection too. If there is one try the other setting even if it seems like what it's on makes sense. BIOS + USB keyboard can be a strange combination.:)

Thanks for teh replies fellas. This is an IBM BladeCenter blade, so no BIOS settings to change and no option for PS/2 keyboard.

Here is what I am really after: trying to install SLES8 to storage controlller that is not in the kernel. The manufacturer says the driver is included in SLES but not compiled in the kernel. My question is can it be included as a loadable module but not in the kernel? I was hoping I could load it manually without needing a ddkit. If installation requires the ddkit then this whole USB keyboard thing is moot.

Well, seeing no immediate replies I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that there may be an expert mode that would allow you to load additional modules before installation. Having not done it myself, I don't know exactly how that would work, but I seem to recall reading that most distros have that sort of capability.

You can't access the BIOS? Really?? On an IBM blade? Are you certain?

At any rate, in my past experience of any Suse distro, they normally support USB KB and Mouse out of the box without any trouble....

Sorry. I can access the BIOS but there are no options for USB keyboard to work without detection that I am aware of. And there is not a way to physically cable a PS/2 keyboard. Besides which SLES would need to load the USB modules to get the keyboard functioning. In manual (expert) mode it doesn't probe for anything.

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. For now I am going to say what I wanted to do is sufficiently complicated enough that I don't want our customers doing it. I will find another way.
