I am a complete linux novice and have been attampting to install xandros 3 but keep getting an error code 2000. CAn anyone please tell me where I am goingw rong and any fix if possible. Thanks in anticipation

If you downloaded and burned the cd, it could be a MD5 sum error (checks the files for completeness) or a SCSI/SATA drive incompatibility.
Read throught this thread (http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=21782&highlight=error+code+2000) and see if any of those apply to you.

You're suggesting a link to an unaswered question where it was completly side-stepped and suggested to install Mepis instead?

yerrmann, could you let us know what hardware you have?
Also, the second post on this thread (http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=11467&highlight=error+code+2000) are excellent first steps.
set Non Plug & Play in the BIOS
Press shift when booting from CDROM and then go by the down arrow to custom setup and press TAB instead of Enter.
Type: ide=nodma after the "Install_custom"
If you still have problems add "pci=0" after "ide=nodma" seperated by space
If you still have problems the add these arguments too "apm=off nousb nosound acpi=off"
