I've read through these help files:
http://justlinux.com/nhf/Webservers/Installing_and_Configuring_Apache_on_Debian.html
http://justlinux.com/nhf/Webservers/PHP_and_Apache_Intro.html
My brother is far more knowledgable about Linux and Kubuntu in general than I, whereas this is my first real install of a Linux distro since my Intro to Linux (using Redhat/Gnome) back in '98. His advice to me was not to download software, and rather install what has come with the OS.
I understand Adept will update Kubuntu if need be, but I thought before I launch on a weekend-long crusade to get my websites off my existing, slow and a little unstable Windows XP Pro server, I should perhaps seek more info. I really havn't been able to locate much else via crawling Google or searching help files besides what I've linked above.
So, my question to you fine folks is: what pitfalls might I encounter, how can I work around them, and do you know of any sites that might perhaps have more information or more detailed (read: dumbed-down for the newbie) documentation on installing and running Apache 2, MySQL, PHP on Kubuntu?
Also, as an aside, I havn't really been able to locate a site that outlines how to set up Kubuntu as an FTP server. I wasn't sure if there was a software package within Kubuntu that I could install, or if it's something I may have to go looking for. The features I'm looking for are: user quota restrictions, locking into home directories, and overall bandwidth limitations. I'm a Cisco networking geek myself, so if push comes to shove I can set my 2514 to limit the bandwidth in and out for that particular port so if someones on downloading like crazy, it doesn't overrun my connection. But, the quota and home directory situations would be necessary.
Thanks in advance, sorry for the rambling post, I appreciate any and all advice anyone can offer for me as I forage my way through this! Thanks again!
