Hi Folks,
first of all, I have absolutly no clue about linux till now. I really need some advise in choosing the "right" distribution for a noob like me. I know there isn't really a "right" choice but some help would be greatly appreciated.
Thx.

I'd say start with one of the live cds like knoppix or ubutnu. When you pick the second one, it should come in the back of the big thick book you are gonna go buy....

Why would you prefer a distribution on CD not a classic one?

There are many reasons for starting on linux via a "live cd"
First. You can run linux without having to install it on your system. And if youre new to linux, have one PC and you screw up your PC by trying to get it to dual boot, well then you're in for some real fun.
2nd. You can take it anywhere you go and use it on a PC to learn commands and not harm the PC.
3rd. most are small enough that you can download several types to try and get your feel of how different distros work.
I would recommend Knoppix or Slax.

I agree with trying the Live CD's first. When you decide to install to your hard drive look into Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or Fedora

I missed that thread, sorry for that. It's quite a bit of reading but it should cover the topics I meant to be adressed.
Thx
