I've been looking around for hours on Google and this forum and there seems to be no topic specific to this problem, though many have gotten it anyway.
I have a wireless network card on my desktop, and I was able to install the driver successfully with ndiswrapper, modprobe, etc. iwlist wlan0 scan lists all the wireless networks available. I configured wlan0 originally through iwconfig but then moved on to the Network Manager that comes with Fedora Core 4. I deactivated my old eth0 because I replaced it with the wlan (not enough pci slots on the back, you see) so I'm pretty sure I got everything right.
The problem is now, when I try to activate wlan0, it spits out "no link present. check cable?" not very helpful, as wlans do not even use cables. my router has WEP encryption, but I also tried connecting to nearby unsecured routers, and still no results.
I have a D-link DWL-G510, and I updated the kernel with the stk16 version. The only warning I get is when I run iwconfig:
driver for device wlan0 recommended version 18 for Wireless Extensions but has been compiled with version 17, therefore some driver features may not be available...
Has anyone solved this problem? Does it have to do with the version 17/18 warning? Please, help.
