I have recently installed SuSE 10 OSS along with winxp. Last night i decided to trash winxp and give the hdd holding mp3 and videos to linux. Because the volume was a dynamic (and unreadable under linux) i moved the data to an external disk and deleted the partition from disk manager in windows. When i booted back into linux, i tried to format the disk but the yast partitioner module says that it cannot read the partition on the disk. When i click create it pops an error, something about expert and then nothing. I erased the partition with the expert tab, but to no avail. A smaller disk with the winxp boot was deleted and partitioned perfectly. Is it possible that parted has issues with 250gb drives (IDE) or the dynamic formatting under winxp messed up the drive?

Ok, problem solved... I guess I should insist in this thread, or send an e-mail to the GNU Parted guys or at Novell. The YAST module does not recognize the 250GB WD Caviar disk properly (as a matter of fact, it doesn't recognize it at all). I guess it has something to do with the 1024 cylinders limit? But fdisk and mkfs.reiser worked perfectly... As i read in some other thread : "Real men do it with the console!". Sorry to the gals out there, but you get the point ;-)
