In order to save screen real-estate, I moved the taskbar to the bottom.
Now, however, the taskbar and panel are on top of one another at the bottom of the screen. Is there some way of combining these two into one bar/panel, with launcher buttons and taskbar items?

The printscreen button in XFCE doesn't seem to do anything, so if this isn't clear, sorry.

Also, can I change the icons of the launcher?

It's been a long time since I used XFCE, but I think there's an xfce4-taskbar-plugin that will do what you want.

So there is, and it works :)
I just have to figure out how to get rid of the taskbar-panel now that I have them integrated.

I figured out how to take a screenshot, by binding a key to gnome-screenshot, but that program is a bit crap, and only takes PNGs which are too big to post here, so I installed ksnapshot instead.

If you are using the XFCE session manager (you would be by default), then type in "killall xftaskbar4" and exit saving your session, and then it shouldn't load the next time you start XFCE. If you want it back, run it manually, then exit saving your session.
