I'm trying to find a multi motherboard rack mounted chassis - can't seem to find one. I would like to mount say 5 or more motherboards in a rack mount chassis - to be used in a processing farm.

For example: You buy this 4U Rackmountable Case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811219002) and you put 4 of these 1U Rackmount (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16856152009) in it. fishface 11-12-2005, 12:51 PM Yeah, I know what you mean, but I've been told (it could be wrong - he was a bit sketchy) that there is a case out there which you can mount multiple motherboards in, has dual redundant PSUs etc. Having a 1U case for each processing unit defeats the point. It might have to modify an existing design in the end. I have racks of mini tower PCs which are used for HPC, I would like to replace them - of course, as usual with these things, the budget is limited. I have limited space, and cutting down on the number of PSUs would help reduce the heat - they are in an A/C room though. thaddaeus 11-12-2005, 02:16 PM Could you be talking about blade servers? http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/pedge_1855?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd fishface 11-12-2005, 03:49 PM Very nearly. The guy was quite clear that it wasn't quite blade server as such. Imagine a rack chassis where it has mountings, for say up 6 or 7 motherboards, not blade servers, just the mobos, a couple of power supplies and a few hard drives and that is it. Sort of a blade server on the cheap! I guess I might give our Dell account manager a call - and haggle! :D eskiled 11-12-2005, 04:44 PM Like I said I don't really think that exists. Perhaps buy some aluminum and make one :)?
