This has probably been discussed before, but I would like to know if there are any compatability problems between Ubuntu and Debian. Thanks.

Sometimes, as Ubuntu have a 6 month release schedule and Debian have a much longer release schedule, so Ubuntu packages are a lot more bleeding edge than those in Debian stable repositries.
As such some incompatibilities occur here and there. The flip side is that a lot of Ubuntu tried and tested packages end up in the next stable release of Debian as they have proved their stability and worth.
