I'm not sure if this is the best place for this question. But I'm confused, so this looked like a good place to me.

I've been trying a few liveCDs (Ubuntu, Mepis, couple others that didn't work too well) I really liked mepis, but after about 10 minutes it started getting really slow (a minute delay between hitting a button and it doing what it should do) Is that one of the "normal" things that Mepis does? Or is there something I'm doing wrong? My laptop isn't too old. Compaq R3140US, XP 3000+, 512 ram. It's 1.8Ghz, but usually runs at 750Ghz (I forget what the "feature" is called, but it's supposed to do that) As soon as I pick up a heat sink and case I'll put together a testing computer and be able to do a install to test with, but I was hoping to get this working.

I also tried installing Ubuntu on a USB drive, but I don't remember the error message I got so I'll hold off asking about that one for now.

No, that is not normal. It may have something to do with it running off of the CD. Then, again I don't really know what might be causing it. The only way to be for sure is to test a harddrive install.

It may also have somthing to do with the cpu being clocked back usually to save power when useing a battery rather than the outlet or when the cpu is begining to overheat it may do the same thing. Which if it is overheating then you may be close to damageing it.

I doubt it's a heating problem. I supose anything is possible, but it's clocked back since day 1 and I have it sitting on a notebook cooler as well. I think I'll have a testing rig setup today so I'll just install it and try it that way.
