Trust communicator 56k esp modem

I have used this modem with other linux systems with no problem.

kubuntu fails to detect this modem. I have tried wvdialconf, pppconf and kppp with no success they all fail to detect the modem.
setserial shows two ports as:
/dev/ttyS0 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
/dev/ttyS1 at 0x02f8 )irq = 3) is a 16550A

How do I get kubuntu to detect this modem?

again the most common mistake is to say the distro doesnt support your hardware, so lets go over this again

kernel is the main component of linux, since thats what linux is, and it is respsonsible for your hardware working, therefore your hardware working is distro independent and kernel configuration specific, so recompile your kernel and add the support you need for your device
