Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : My desktop clock applet is incredibly tiny! (SUSE10/Gnome)

Seriously. I have to lean in close to read it. Soon I'll have to use my reading glasses.

Here's what I tried: I found a preference menu for the clock, but all of the options had to do with content, not display. I went to YAST (the SUSE package manager), to see if there wasn't something in the repositories that I could install. I did searches for "clock" and "gnome", and found nothing that apparently related to my annoying little problem.

Okay. I have a clock that I could move next to the computer, but I've spent so much time getting my desktop just so that this is going to really bug me if I don't get it fixed-- and damn it, if there's anything I've learned about Linux, is that there's ALWAYS a way to fix ANYTHING. Maybe there's something I could download?

SOLVED! SOLVED! SOLVED! SOLVED!:D
....by right-clicking on the upper panel, clicking on "add to panel", and adding another clock applet, which turned out to be reasonably larger... then removing the ridiculously tiny clock that my Gnome desktop had installed with!

seriously blackbelt, why do you even bother still playing with suse, I read in another thread where you were putting suse down, I never thought there was anyone out there remotely close to how bouncy I am when it comes to distros, of course I wouldnt be if I had 5 test pc's :D. I gave up on suse, to friendly of a distro, some things were nice but I like extracting files to dir's and sudo'ing, debian all the way baby!

If you cant make Suse work you should sell your computer and take up marbles or something. There just isn't an easier distro to install and maintain. Just stick to suse and yast I personally do not ever use apt with suse just to easy to screw things up.

that or at least her should _try_ to make an effort to fix things _before_ posting which in this case, it is obvious he didn't do as usual.

Ah yes. I remember the post well. I completely deserve to have that thrown in my face occasionally, but please don't wear it out.

You seem to be suggesting that, because I am so "bouncy", i should just go ahead and bounce some more. All I can say is: I hope it won't come to that... but time will tell.

I agree with you about extracting to dir's. I noticed that with suse, I can't just highlight a directory of zipfiles, right click, click on "extract here" and watch the stuff come pouring out-- even after I installled file-roller. If I was still downloading hundreds of porno files in zip format off pay sites, it would be a real problem (I guess I could use a debian-based live cd for that.) but for now it doesn't really affect me.

I have another hard drive that I'm not using, and I think I'd like to put something debian on it, for situations where I might find it useful to have easy access to all them packages. Sarge currently doesn't work with my weird-*** DSL connection, so I'm going to have to deal with verizon if I want to get Sarge working. Kanotix has a weird habit on my machine of overwriting the master boot record during a hard drivbe install whether I want it to or not, and I'd rather not deal with it. Perhaps I shall install La Breezy Badger? That should give you plenty of my former posts to throw in my face!

P.S. You know, when I was looking around, I kept getting people telling me to settle down. Now that I'm settled down, i get people telling me I need to switch.

I thought I did. I checked the menu for the applet, the gnome control center, the suse help files, and yast. The idea that "adding" something that was already there would solve my problem did not suggest itself right away.

Anyway, what's the harm? I found the solution to the problem, and now the solution is in the forums in a format where someone else will be able to access it easily.

As always, thank for you for your griping. :)

NOT SOLVED! NOT SOLVED! NOT SOLVED! :(

Damn! This morning I look at my desktop and see that my clock applet has resumed it's previously tiny size, and this time, adding another applet does not help.

Today i spent about an hour randomly looking though files with the words "clock" and "gnome" somewhere in their pathnames.. What I'm hoping is that there is an editable file that will allow me to set a new font value for the clock applet. Any idea where I might find that?

Do the same as you did before, but make sure you save your desktop settings when you log out.

here's a simple suggestion for that problem C: format

or try openbox, besides it loads much faster.....why not get away from the norm and go a different desktop route......

I think you will have to use the direct approach and go int the control center and change the fonts size on the desktop and panel. If you are using 1280x1024 screen resolution I know you will have to do this. Menu-control center-appearence and themes-fonts.

Doesn't work. I can change the fonts on just about everything on the desktop from the control center: icons, menus, the panel... EXCEPT for that clock applet.

Do the same as you did before, but make sure you save your desktop settings when you log out.

Now, when I use the "add to panel" to create a new clock applet, the new clock applet that I create is equally tiny. What's up with THAT?

Good idea. i'm definitely going to change my entire desktop environment because I don't like the font size on the clock.

Gosh, I hope that didn't sound sarcastic. No, wait, wait... I meant to say, I hope it DID sound sarcastic. :p

I'm outa here. Good night ladies and gentlemen; drive carefully!
