A few days ago, my computer stated doing some funky stuff whenever I tried to play a .mov file. The day before yesterday, noatun just stopped and started the last mp3 I listened to instead. Yesterday, it started bringing up krash handler windows every few seconds to ad nausium and today it just froze everything. I just had to pull the plug.
Other programs like totem give me a window saying that it has unexpectedly stopped. It's never done this before and I can not figure out why it would do this now. I have not installed anything new and all music files seem to work fine (except spc).
What the heck could be going on now? This is wierd.

sounds like a buggy version of the codecs, try upgrading all offending libraries and see where that leaves you, or perhaps post some more specific errors ;)

doesn't ctrl+alt+backspace work when it freezes?
it could be that ur gfx card is trying to accelerate the video, and you have buggy drivers?

noatun has created much trouble for me in this manner and rather than mess with it I just compiled the full media support for Xine which works perfectly for me.
noatun would basicly try to take 100 % of processor while doing no viisable playback, I could at least open terminal and run top than kill the process.

Didi you try to reinstall noatun?

I hope I do not sound too stupid here, but how do I tell which libraries are broken?
As for more specific errors, noatun does not give them anymore, it just freezes everything.
(totem says:
"The Application "totem" has quit unexpectedly.
You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it. Or you can restart the application right now."
That is not much help though. If it were more specific maybe even I could diagnose it but this and the error noatun played for a while did not say anything useful.)
It's not just noatun here; the .mov files will not work with anything.

I did not try that yet. I really want to avoid having to reboot again. I will try it when it freezes again.

Buggy drivers, I'll say; but, it all worked fine a few days ago and nothing has changed.
How can I reinstall sound and video drivers without a total system reinstall?
I mean where in the file system are the install files stored?

No, nothing works. Everything dies. I think I will just try a fresh install when and if I ever have the time.
