You may have to excuse my bias on this but I was interested in how everyone here tracks / installs their security and other software updates.

JayMan8081 09-23-2005, 01:18 PM I use apt at work and urpmi at home. Icarus 09-23-2005, 02:00 PM Is that a typo in the title then? Shouldn't it be " How do you manage your software updates?" not backups? Gentoo portage works good for updates with me and for backups I've been using dar to split the backup out across DVDs Syngin 09-29-2005, 12:20 PM Oops, yeah, 'updates'. I don't know about the free versions of Suse, I paid for SLP 9.2. It is installed on 30+ friends and families. Anyway, any package that you have installled on you computer using yast is monitored for updates. For example, switched to Kopete a couple days ago (installed it), next thing I knew, kopete update available. l like it for the ease of use for those I install it. I set it up for full automatic on the less technical peoples machines. It doesn't track manual compiled programs, but that is only on my machine, and is only a few apps where couldn't find Suse RPM. Extremely newbie friendly. hlrguy justlinux.com
