Other than Ubuntu, can anyone else provide me a list of good distros that will work with an AMD Athlon 64? Thanks.

I have been told that SuSE 10 RC1 for x86-64 is an excellent distro. Haven't used it personally, but I have been using SuSE10rc1 32 bit for the last fe weeks and have been very happy with it.

Oh yeah, Gentoo, I wanted to try that distro. I would love to do a stage 1 install, but it requires an internet connection. I have one, but it is only dial up. I don't understand why it needs an internet connection, it has the compiler and some necessary packages. I wish it just left it at that and I would download the individual packages.

You can do a Gentoo install without a fast connection, just buy the cd with a stage3 on it that has been optimized for the AMD64. The DVDs from the Gentoo store contain the sources for KDE last time I checked. SuSE would be another good one if you don't like waiting for source to compile or just want an easier setup.

I would scond that works great for me all works well so far except for some trouble with getting mp3 and DVD under xine working as i had to compile the packages for myself. All said and done it is fast and stable.

gentoo is a distro that needs a good internet connection. its uses the portage package manger. and in my opinion the best package manager period !!!!!!!!!!!!. no other package manger is even close.

doing a stage one isnt to complexs . as long as you make sure to
emerge --sync the portage tree . lol
i forgot to do that and was wondering why my stage one was failing because it was looking for a outdate packages.

you should get a stage 3 dvd and install it . best distro .
