configure: which ever one you are prepared to the read the docs for.

use: they both can run the all same Desktop Environments and Window Managers so there only difference will be minor differences in certain command line apps... so neither.

As a matter of taste FreeBSD: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/index.html

It has the KISS principle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KISS_principle).

on the side of preference and bias ;) i tend to think freebsd(bsd's in general) or more logically laid out and more professional in quality of what you get. remember FreeBSD in an operating system Linux is a kernel

not really, if you compare mandriva and freebsd, linux wins. i think graphical configuration tools is important for ease of use. bsd dumps you in the command line with no gui in the beggining.

I could say the same about Slackware "vs" Mandriva, obviously Mandriva will wins but remember, it's all about freedom:

Quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slackware

"When you know Slackware, you know Linux... when you know Red Hat, all you know is Red Hat."

thats a matter or oppinion too, i find clunky wizards that allow me to click next but chose the wrong option that the developer thought was right, is not easier to use, since you end up going back to fix it in the long run anyways

do it right the first time and you have far less problems

For a PC I think linux is more easy because it treats the hardware simular as DOS/OS2/windows. You've got primary and logical partitions and fdisk is (c)fdisk.

BSD behaves odd in that matter. It doesn't acknowledge 'logical patitions' and slices-up primaries as if it were an extended!
Fdisk is not there and fat32 can only be mounted when it is located on a primary partition.

Once you are aware those facts BSD is just as easy & beautifull as linux.
