I am trying to help some people setup a lab which is only runing Linux everywhere but they seem to be having a problem in that users are tending to do whatever they want.

Basically I would like to lock them down to only using eg firefox. Putting the icon on the desktop and they can only click on that and nothing else. And that only the designated admin can ad//remove an app from thedesktop for access to application [x].

TIA

well... it may help if you said what Desktop Environment you are trying to lock down.

if its that restricted, you should use a dedicated window manger like ratpoison, and write a script to make sure firefox is always running

both KDE (afaik) and Gnome have kiosk modes for setting them up to only run one app... basically the browser loads and nothing else.
