You need unallocated space squeezed out of XP first, possibly using special software like Partition Magic. Some distros can resize XP during LInux installation but I am not too hot on it as a wrong step can leave you with both systems unaccessible. 5Gb should do most plus may 1 or 0.5Gb for swap in GNU/Linux.

Linux has many live CD. Get one to create the two partitions. Unlike DOS a Linux live CD has no fear of large disks and the partitions created will be automatically native Linux type 83.

Just load a GNU/Linux and tells it the partitions to be used ( to mount / on one and use the other for swap).

By instructing GNU/Linux to place its bootloader in MBR will make it dual boot automatically. GNU/Linux detects every partition for a bootloader and include it for booting if that partition got it (since XP is already booting).

There is nothing to it. Just remember XP and GUN/Linux bootloaders can be replicated any number of time. The installation CD of XP and GNU/Linux can be used for this purpose.

Have fun. Dual boot is child play in GNU/Linux. Should be more *****ious and think of 10 or 20 systems instead
