I origionaly had just windows 2000 pro on my machine but 2 days ago tried to install gentoo, after failing misrably I installed ubuntu. Ubuntu works fine now but my windows partition doesn't even boot at all. I'm getting an error saying NOOSKERNL.EXE is missing or corrupted. Now I don't know if this is something grub screwed up or maybe I screwed up while trying to intall gentoo.

I used the 2000 install disk and went into the repair console, I could see ntoskernl but when I tried to read it (type ntoskernl) it said there was no file or directory. I'm really confused, 2000 said it couldn't even find an install to fix but I still see my file.

Should I just try and copy a kernel from another 2000 computer on a floppy to this one? Is this just a grub problem of finding the kernel?

1 last thing. When ubuntu was installing grub it asked me if it was correct, but it showed windows 2000 pro twice. At the time I didn't think anything of it, but it shows up twice on the boot screen so thats what makes me think it may be a grub problem.

I would really appreciate ANY help seeing as I can't get to my drive from ubuntu for some reason (No drives are under /mnt like slackware, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place) but I need to get my resume off my old windows install for a job interview ASAP.

well orangepoptart your MBR has already change, and for you to restore is going to cost a lot of time and efford.

Suggestion: VMware ver4 or later. this is what everyone should have and a computer that runs intel and about 1gigs of memmory to run multiple OS on host machine. simple to use help files added and if you are a network/ server any type specialist this tool becomes your next best thing to s..!!!. You also need your os images to be inserted into your image drive once you set up your vmware console to boot multiple os within your host.
