Hi All,

I am a newbie to slackware linux, and somewhat a not-that-much user of REDHAT 9. I have just installed Slackware 10.1, the installation was so smooth. I was able to dual boot with WinXP.

After i restarted the system, the bootloader (LILO) menu showed both OS's. When i selected Linux and it booted up, i tried to login with the root username, the password was correct but everytime i try to do so the system takes me back to the LOGIN prompt. Again i tried but the result is the same.
I see some random quote, and then the "homepc login: " message. (homepc being my hostname).

Could u plz suggest a solution to this problem? I would be grateful.

Well, I dont know how this could have gotten screwed up during an install, but boot to a live cd and check out /etc/passwd on your harddrive....the last part of the line starting with root should end with /bin/bash (or /bin/sh).

I'm thinking that the shell assigned to root is missing, or that line is messed up?
