Howdy...

I usually run debian unstable and it has been rock solid for me and apt-get is way cool.

however, I go back and forth on which WM/DE i like best, so I would like to try out KDE 3.4.1.

Can anyone guide me through this install or point me to a guide that actually works?

I have searched many a google site, and all of them leave out steps or assume this or that, and it never works.

http://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2005/04/msg00172.html says add their repository, than just "install xorg", leaving out how to install xorg, and well, kde.

http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/docs/install.html leaves out the "experimental repository" they refer too, and they are assuming I already have KDE installed, and that I just want to upgrade.

When i go to "install" kde via apt-get, no matter the repositories, I get dependancies that are "not going to be installed".

I know i am running "unstable" and that it may serve me right for doing so, but its as stable as any OS i have ever used.

I understand that the official repositories don't have the current KDE, but these other sites claim it is possible.

Am I missing something, or is KDE 3.4.1 not installable via apt-get on Debian unstable ?? And if so, is there a guide to installing it by any other means? "from source" isn't a complete enough answer as I *think* there are many packages that make up KDE (kdearts? kdelibs? kdeetc)...do I need them all? And which ones are "all"?

Thanks in advance...

you might have a broken package problem, i know there was a recent libexif-10 problem for gnome users, might have affected KDE users as well, but apt-get install kdebase should do it
