Hi-

I'm running Suse 9.3, upgraded from 9.1. I'm a regular KDE user, and I've been using that fine for a long while, and I wanted to check out Gnome. When I switched over to Gnome, got the splash screen & music like it was starting up, but then got a blank desktop -- no icons, no menus, nuttin'.

So, being adventurous, I upgraded all my Gnome-related rpms, libraries, etc. Still nothing with Gnome, and now my gnome-related applications that used to run from KDE don't work either!

If I run gtkPod, for example, here's the message I get:

rob@localhost:~> /opt/gnome/bin/gtkpod
/home/rob/.gtk_qt_engine_rc:62: error: unexpected character `{', expected character `}'
/opt/gnome/bin/gtkpod: symbol lookup error: /opt/gnome/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: pango_renderer_get_type

or, if I run Grip, I get:

rob@localhost:~> /opt/gnome/bin/grip
/home/rob/.gtk_qt_engine_rc:62: error: unexpected character `{', expected character `}'
/opt/gnome/bin/grip: symbol lookup error: /opt/gnome/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: pango_renderer_get_type

So, obviously something is wrong with .gtk_qt_engine_rc, as it's common to both issues, but I've googled around any haven't found anything.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks,

Nipper

I would try moving all my ~/.gnome type files and restart your WM. .gconf, pretty much anything that's ~/.g* get it out of the way and let new config files be written.

Thanks, je_fro. I upgraded my Pango RPMs, which for some reason were old...

That did the trick!

Thanks for the help,
