Guys,

At my business we are running a SMB server and we have a our client's PCs connected to two networked drives. Y:\ and Z:\.

Well I am wanting to mount some networked folders ontop of the certain folders on the client's machines. i.e. user foo logs into machine. All "my documents" files and folders will be saved to i.e. "c:\document and settings\foo\my documents". Since our users never use the same machines frequently, we want to give them a roaming profile in a sense. So I want to mount /users/foo/my documents \\machine1\my documents\. I am familar with linux and how to mount using NAS, though never tried it with SMB.

I know I could transfer the files back and forth, but the files are really large and I do not want to bog down the network.

Thanks in advance,
-Doron

There are tutorials to do what it sounds like you want to do at samba.org. Even some insite to setup ADS.

If your users are running Windows workstations with either Win2K or XP, then right-click on the "My Documents" icon, choose "Move", and then select the network folder that it should point to. You will be promtpted to "Move existing files to new location", choose yes or no based on where the files are currently. I use this exact setup at home with my wife's Win2K laptop and a Slackware PC with a samba shared directory.
