afaik, you have to get the kit from sony.

you can probably get one on ebay used.

Sony did in the begining offer the kit for retial sale for somwhere around $175-$200. Withing the first year they discontinued it. Basically from what I rememer is was a custom cdrom booting distro and the harddrive. I'm sure with a mod chip, and some googleing, you can get linux working on it. Unless you can create signed cds :) . I no dyn:bolic works with a modded xbox (works awsomely) but don't know if ps2 is included. and Like Hayl said look on ebay.

You can search on Console Source (consolesource.com). Thats where I bought my hdd and modchip for my xbox, their in Canada too, so shipping would be cheaper for you :) ...So I did a quick search and didn't find any OS type stuff...But I will do some more searching of my sources and reply with what I can find

did a google for linux ps2 and found
http://playstation2-linux.com/ (http://playstation2-linux.com)

looks like it uses kondora as is distro which is based off redhat

looks like this site still sells it
