I can no longer reach my print server! I am using Mandriva 10.1 as the file print server (because no matter what I did or how I configured the system I couldn't get SuSE to share, or accept connections from other systems!) My girlfriends Linspire system and my SuSE 9.3 and Windows 2K laptop can print via the print server, but my main system cannot.

The ONLY thing I have done to my main system, is powered it down for an annual cleaning and added a new stick of memory. Other than that I have made <B>NO</B> system changes at all and now I cannot print! When I try to ping my print file server, this is what I get:

Master: ping 192.168.0.32
PING 192.168.0.32 (192.168.0.32) 56(84) bytes of data.

But when I ping anything else, I get this...

Master: ping yahoo.com

So what gives? I do not understand what is going on, nothing has changed other than the addition of RAM to my main system. Anyone?

PS: Once I figure out how to get Ubuntu to see my file / print server... I am ditching SuSE... they have started to really suck the last 2 offerings. Just like Mandrake did back with the 7 series... which is why I ditched them.

I am using SuSE 9.3... for now. Thing is I am looking for an answer to this question so that in the future if I work on a SuSE system and this happens again I have it in my personal library. Thanks

Have you checked the firewall on the Mandriva system??

the Mandriva system has been running for 3 months now, not a problem.

The Linspire about 2 weeks and it still can print to the Mandriva server...

My Win2K Laptop can as well... and the other partition (SuSE 9.3) on my laptop can too...

A test SuSE 9.3 system and an Ubuntu (finally figured it out...) can also print using the Mandriva printers.

Just my main SuSE 9.3 Pro, which could before I shut down to clean and add RAM, could, after the cleaning and RAM install... no more printing and the messages above are what I get when I try to ping ther Mandriva server.

I even turned the firewall off and opened the Mandriva system wide... still no joy.

what's the output of mii-tool, ifconfig and route -n?

I don't know what mii-tool is. I am able to access the internet... I am using my main system to post this here now. Although I am off to work in about 5 minutes. I don't understand how something that was working fine before and has had no configuration changes made by me, now doesn't work at all. Again the only thing that has changed is the RAM and I cleaned the system of a years worth of dust. I haven't run updates in 11 days now (going to do that later tonight maybe...) and I am behind a smoothwall CD based router firewall, so I am pretty confident I have not been comprimised, otherwise I would be seeing odd things on all my systems (5 total).

Hmmm hqve you tried from kprinter putting in the IP Address of the Madriva box and seeing if the printer comes up in the list? Also have you tried manually installing the printer directly through cups in the web interface? (Remember you must enable root access first :D )

I didn't want to waste people time without trying the basics first. No matter how I try I cannot get the printers to re-install. It's rather frustrating to say the least.
