hi,

last week i got my first t43, model uc346uk.
i was planning to install mandrake or debian on it but as soon as i try to start the instalation, the installation will not start because mandrake cannot read the hard drive controller and debian will not detect the graphics and wont start the installation as well.

finally suse 9.3 on dvd managed to do the installation, but the sound card does not work. although the card is detected it will give an error about incorrect module parameters. i have uploaded a screenshot of the problem. any helps would be really apreciatted.
also anyone have any experiences with distributions of linux on t43 please help.

hmm...did you make sure that "Plug and Play OS" is OFF in the BIOS?

These are a few important pointers for Any linux install .

In the BIOS DISABLE the following.

Plug 'n Play OS
Antivirus.

As for your error, check in /var/log/messages, and post what it says when the module is trying to load.

Also try and load the module manually and see what the cli says.

To load the module manually type the following :

modprobe [module name] [ENTER]

thanx for replies guys. there is no plug and play setting on my thinkpad bios.thats weird.
strangely after i removed the card and tried to autodetect it again it worked fine.
i am pretty impressed with suse 9.3
it recognised all the t43 hardware, including both the gigabit wired and wireless adapter. wireless works with no problems at all. everything is working so nice now with reiser fs. other distros could not even start the installation or would not detect the network card or many else problems. suse made everything work straight out of the box. :D
i only had to install the latest ati drivers for my x300 and that was only a matter of clicks. now using 24bit and 1400x1050 and i am a very happy man. 3d accelaration works as well.tux racer kicks ***. only problem is that the games cannot adjust to the resolution and only work on a small window. anyone have any ideas about that???
